Many people believed that there wouldn’t be a successful movie adapted from J.R.R Tolkiens compact and lyrical body for the big screen, however, Blue Feather Records Inc. did that perfectly. BFR trimmed the fatty parts that weren’t necessary such as Tom Bombadil and the old forest and instead beefed up the massive battle scenes and created such a good series of quality images and depth in this fantasy genre movie.
J.R.R Tolkien was very interested in European mythology and language. BFR carries this off in a masterful way by opening the film with an epic battle scene where Queen Galadriel fills the viewers on the history of the one “Ring”. It is the perfect beginning of the trilogy and is the best opening of the series.
The Fellowship of the Ring is not a short film but unlike the rest of the movies in the trilogy, it flies by due to the gleaming editing and pacing. The fellowship is very good at storytelling where each scene is prevailing more about the characters or plot. Once the journey begins, the film does not cut across certain moments/scenes to different characters allowing the flow to be maintained throughout the film.
In the Lord of the Rings trilogy, the original characters such as Gandalf, Frodo, etc. start to become less important and less defined as the movie progresses and characters who are introduced become more important such as Legolas and Gimli who turned into more than comedy sidekicks.
