Lord of the Rings: Trilogy Review

Writer's picture: Reid MontgomeryReid Montgomery

Sauron, the dark lord, has gathered all seven rings of power as he intends to rule Middle-earth. His only problem is he doesn't have the One Ring, which rules them all, that had fallen into the hands of Bilbo Baggins. Young Frodo Baggins finds himself entrusted with a quest to destroy the One Ring in Mount Doom that was given to him by Bilbo.

Lord of the Rings was first released in 1954, and since then the book has been cherished by people. Full of magic, otherworldliness, and fantasy has been found to be loved by both elderly people and children. The trilogy was written by J.R.R Tolkien in 1954 (The Fellowship of the Ring, The Two Towers, and The Return of the King) the trilogy was published by George Allen and Unwin between 1954 to 1955. It is full of heroism, love and friendship, and entertaining for all ages which resulted in a benchmark set for fantasy genre novels. Tolkien depicts the image of Middle-earth beautifully and their journey, this is why if you have the time to read a novel, you should pick one of the three.

Each of the three movies are about the journey to destroy the One Ring, however, they all differ in the scenery, character friendships, and combat. The Fellowship of the Ring is where the fellowship begins their quest to Mount Doom to destroy the One Ring bared to Frodo. In The Two Towers, the fellowship can be seen split up, Gollum follows Frodo and Sam while Aragorn, Legolas, and Gimli encounter King Theoden of the Rohan Kingdom who is very sick. In Return of the King, Frodo and Sam reach Mordor to finish their quest while Aragorn fights the forces of evil in the city of Minas Tirath. Overall, each book is very interesting to read and should be picked up whenever you have the time.
